Police Report: April 23, 2010

  • A bicycle was stolen on April 13 around 9 a.m. at the Clifton Tower. The Blue Silver Mongoose bicycle was attached by a chain lock to a rack underneath the building. The bike is valued at $300.
  • A student returned to the Starvine Parking deck at 11:20 a.m. on April 13 to find damage to their blue Chevy Impala. The damage came as a result of a criminal attempt to enter the vehicle.
  • An act of criminal trespassing occurred between April 13 at 7:45 p.m. and April 14 at 5:05 p.m. A 20-year-old Emory student stated that their 2007 black Infiniti had scratches on the front door. The car was parked in a space next to an elevator in a Clairmont Residential parking lot. The case was turned over to an investigator.
  • An iPhone and a black case were stolen on April 13 between 8:15 and 8:25 p.m. The victim, a 19-year-old Emory student, stated that he was playing basketball at the Woodruff P.E. Center basketball court. He placed his cell phone on the floor. When he returned, it was missing. The phone and case is valued at $220. There are no suspects.
  • A black male subject was spotted on April 14 at 2:55 p.m. at Cannon Chapel. The subject appeared to be homeless and looking for food.
  • A sheet with a painted Israeli flag was draped outside of the banquet area of the Dobbs University Center. Facilities Management noticed the flag at 7:51 a.m. on April 15. When they attempted to take it down, they were unable to do so as the people who put up the flag barricaded the door leading to the roof. The barricade, which prevented anyone from getting to the roof, caused an unestimated amount of damage to the door. The case was turned over to an investigator.

Police Record: Friday, January 22

  • Emory Police Department received a report on Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. from a 19-year-old female Emory student and resident of Evans Hall who stated that someone stole her bicycle from the bicycle rack outside of the residence hall. The bicycle is an 18-speed, Quest bicycle measuring 26-inches long. The bicycle is green, black and silver and is valued at $200. The chain lock that had secured the bicycle had been removed as well.
  • EPD received a report from a resident of the sorority lodges, who stated that someone had entered her third floor room and unlocked her previously locked refrigerator sometime between Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. and Jan. 12 at 9:56 p.m. The student told police that nothing seemed to be out of place, nor were there any signs of forced entry, but that her refrigerator had been locked when she left and was unlocked when she returned. Nothing was missing from the refrigerator.
  • EPD arrested a female resident of Atlanta, unaffiliated with the University, on Jan. 9 after she failed to use her headlights while driving in the dark. After stopping the vehicle in question, EPD officers determined that the vehicle had previously been stolen from Hertz Rental Company. The vehicle, a 2010 Kia, was impounded and the driver of the vehicle was transported to DeKalb County Jail. Her court date has not been set at this time.
  • EPD officers responded to a report of students laying on the railroad tracks near Lullwater Park and Turman Residential Center on Jan. 11 at 2:46 p.m. Officers determined that the subjects were Druid Hills High School students. The students told officers that they were laying on the tracks to keep warm.
  • EPD received a report that someone had attempted to remove a boot from their white Range Rover, which had been parked illegally for three weeks, on Jan. 12 sometime between midnight and 11:30 a.m. Staff members at the Parking Office told EPD that there were metal shavings around the boot on the vehicle, but the boot had not been removed at that time.
  • An Emory student called EPD to report that someone stole their black iPhone on Jan. 12 sometime between 2:45 and 7:01 p.m. from the Woodruff P. E. Center. The student left the phone on the basketball court and it was missing when they returned to retrieve it. The phone is valued at $200 and its case is valued at $20.
  • A 21-year-old male Emory student contacted EPD to report that someone scratched and dented his 2006 red Volvo, parked on the third level of a Clairmont parking deck, on Jan. 12 at 11 p.m. The student further stated that the headlights of his vehicle were also shattered, and that there was a fire extinguisher lying on the ground next to his vehicle. Officers took the fire extinguisher as evidence. The victim does not know who is responsible for damaging his vehicle, but has reported the damages to be more than $500.
