Police Report: November 9, 2010

  • A student contacted the Emory Police Department (EPD) to report that someone had slashed the tires of her 1992 Honda Accord, which was parked by the Center for Lifelong Learning, sometime on Oct. 19 between 7:00 and 9:30 p.m. The student stated that she was attending class at the Center at the time of the incident. The case has been turned over to investigation. The tires were valued at $105.
  • A dark blue Land Rover with a Tennessee tag, parked at the Lowergate visitors’ parking lot, was damaged between Oct. 28 at 6:11 p.m. and Oct. 31 8:16 p.m. A Norred security officer found that the vehicle’s window was cracked and had a hole in the glass. It did not appear as if anyone had forced entry into the vehicle, since all of the car’s doors were still locked and a purse that the owner had left on the backseat was still there. The owner of the vehicle was contacted about the incident.
  • A student’s backpack was stolen from the first level of the Dobbs University Center cafeteria on Oct. 30 sometime between 7:15 and 8:00 p.m. The backpack, valued at $50, contained a Dell computer valued at $1000, two books valued at a total of $160 and other miscellaneous items valued at a total of $20. The student cancelled the credit cards that had been left in the backpack.
  • A student accidentally started a grease fire as she was cooking in the kitchen of her apartment in Building F on Clairmont Campus on Nov. 6 sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. The fire activated the building’s sprinkler system. EPD, Emory Emergency Medical Services (EEMS), Emory facilities management and the DeKalb County Fire Department responded to the incident. EEMS treated minor burns on the face and hands of the student, who refused transport to the hospital for any additional treatment. There was no damage to any other rooms or units.
