• Emory Police Department received a report of a suspicious person, described as a white female in her early fifties, with brown hair and brown eyes. Officers first made contact with the suspect on Dec. 29 at 4:45 p.m. outside of Harris Hall. The subject had been outside on the benches asking people passing by for money. The same subject had also been seen earlier the parking area of the shuttles and near Starbucks in Emory Village. Officers asked the subject to stay away from Emory property and the woman complied.

• EPD officers arrested a white male subject on Dec. 29 at 11:41 p.m. for driving without a license. The subject was driving a red 1992 Nissan and had expired licenses from both Texas and Mexico. The subject’s vehicle was towed and his court date is set for February 21.

• On Jan. 2 at 7:01 p.m., EPD dispatched officers to a fire alarm at Whitehead Biomedical Research Building. When officers arrived at the location, they found a trash can completely engulfed in flames. The fire department and facilities management department responded to the location as well and the fire was contained. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire.

• EPD received a report that an individual was trapped in the elevator at the Autism Center on Jan. 3 at 5:55 p.m. due to a power outage. The DeKalb County Fire Department and facilities management responded to the call and freed the individual.

• On Jan. 4 at 5:02 a.m., officers responded to a fire alarm coming from Clifton Tower Apartments. Upon entering the building, officers found a water leak coming from the ceiling in the main lobby. They cleaned up the area and found no damage to the apartments or any personal property above.

• EPD received a report on Jan. 4 at 10:50 a.m. that a 37-year-old staff member has been receiving harassing phone calls. The complainant stated that the individual had been contacting her and hanging up repeatedly. Officers determined that the calls had been coming from a phone on the second floor of Woodruff Library.

• A case of criminal trespassing and property damage was reported on Jan. 5 at 1:45 p.m. from a staff member at the Dobbs University Center, who reported that some of the concrete benches on the porch and walkway outside of faculty dining area had been damaged. The building director had confronted three skateboarders in the area at the time the damage occurred, whose were 16 to 17 years old. The total damage was $500 but the full extent of the skateboarders’ involvement is unknown at this time.
