- A theft of lost or mislaid property occurred on Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. from the Emory Hotel and Conference Center. A visitor stayed at the Hotel and Conference Center for business and left a two-carat diamond wedding band on the dresser and did not take the ring with her when she checked out. The visitor later called the hotel and told them she was positive that she left the ring in her room when she left and that it is valued at $4,000.
- Emory Police Department (EPD) officers responded to the 1000 block of Ridgewood Drive on Feb. 24 at 6:16 p.m. and observed the driver of a 2005 silver Honda sleeping in the front seat of his car with the engine still running. Officers made contact with the subject and detected a strong odor of alcohol on his person. Officers identified the subject as a 21-year-old male Emory student who was extremely intoxicated and became disorderly with police officers. The student was cited for public intoxication and transported to Emory University Hospital. His court date has been set for March 19.
- EPD received a noise complaint on Feb. 24 at 8:19 p.m. A resident of Luckie Lane stated that continual noise was coming from the Emory property. EPD officers determined that a fire alarm was coming from one of the high rise buildings belonging to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC was notified of the fire alarm.
- EPD received a report of a person down due to alcohol intoxication and responded to Harris Hall on Feb. 25 at 2:05 a.m. Officers arrived and identified an 18-year-old male Emory student who was heavily intoxicated. He was transported to Emory University Hospital for medical treatment and the Division of Campus Life was notified of the incident.
- EPD made contact with a person wandering through the third floor of the Woodruff Health Science Center Administration Building on Feb. 25 at 12:34 p.m. The subject stated that he was trying to located Human Resources and was allowed to leave the building without further incident. The subjects is a black male, age 56, six feet, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is a resident of Stone Mountain.
- EPD received a report of criminal trespassing that occurred at 6 Eagle Row on Feb. 26 at 2:26 a.m. Officers arrived and found a broken window. The House Director at the location told officers that they heard the breaking glass and came out of their room, where they heard a person running. Officers found smashed tomato on the ground and determined it had been thrown against the window. Facilities Management arrived and repaired the window, which sustained $150 in damages. The Division of Campus Life was notified of the incident.
- A 19-year-old female Emory student contacted the Emory Police Department after someone accessed her OPUS account sometime between Jan. 12 at midnight and Jan. 17 at midnight. The student lives in Woodruff Residential Center, and told EPD that someone used her account to change her class schedule over the break. The student further stated that on a separate occasion, she was using MSN Messenger and believed that she was talking with her mom. However, when she spoke to her mom on the phone later that evening, her mom told her that she had not been communicating on the computer with her daughter. The case is currently under active investigation.
- EPD officers responded to an altercation that escalated into a case of simple assault on Jan. 15 at 12:05 p.m. at valet parking at the Emory University Hospital. Officers arrived at the location and met with the 27-year-old valet driver, who told officers that a 43-year-old male driver began cussing and complaining about the valet operation. The driver reportedly drover up to the valet attendant and said, “Go back to where you came from, you’re moving too damn slow.” Witnesses at the incident told officers that the driver put his hands on the valet attendant and began pushing him. The case has been turned over to an investigator.
- EPD responded to the fourth floor of Evans Hall on Jan. 17 at 2 a.m. and made contact with an intoxicated 18-year-old male Emory student. The student was experiencing numbness in his body, and told officers that he had consumed alcohol at Mexico City restaurant and the Phi Delta Theta and Kappa Alpha Order houses. The student was transported to Emory University Hospital and the Division of Campus Life was notified of the incident.
- EPD responded to a report of public intoxication on Jan. 17 between 3:11 and 3:46 a.m. after an Emory student refused to pay for his cab fare. The 18-year-old student passed out in the back seat of the cab after entering the vehicle at Maggie’s and the cab driver met EPD at the Emory University Hospital. The intoxicated student’s resident adviser met with the cab driver and paid the $21.17 fare. The Division of Campus Life was notified of the incident.
- EPD received an anonymous report of sexual assault on Jan. 19 at 3:22 p.m. The sexual assault occurred on campus, but there is no further information at this time.
- A 19-year-old male Emory student notified Emory Police Department that a burglary had occurred at Clifton Tower on Oct. 25 at approximately 1:30 a.m. The student stated that someone stole his silver MacBook Pro computer out of the common area in his apartment at the location. The student further stated that his apartment door was unlocked when he returned and discovered the computer was missing. He told EPD that he failed to report the theft earlier because he had been busy with tests.
- EPD received a report of property damage at the Alpha Tau Omega house on Nov. 20 at 11:47 a.m. Someone reportedly drew a picture of a penis and testicles and wrote the word “F–K” on the house. The house manager at the location was informed of the graffiti.
- EPD identified a 20-year-old Emory student unconscious in a restroom in Few Hall on Nov. 21 at 3:30 a.m. The student had previously been found outside of the residence hall and had been helped inside by other Emory students. Emory Emergency Medical Services arrived at the location and transported the student to Emory University Hospital.
- EPD received a call from a 20-year-old female Emory student on Nov. 22 at 4:57 p.m. who stated that she was at Starvine Parking Deck and wanted to file a complaint about an aggressive driver. The student, who was driving a Honda Civic, stated that another driver jumped in front of her vehicle at a light while she was driving, causing her to slam on her brakes. The driver of that vehicle, a black Lexus, then followed her to the entrance of Starvine Parking Deck, exited his vehicle and approached the student while she was in her vehicle. The male subject reportedly waved his finger in her face and told her that she had endangered him and his family, who was in his vehicle. She replied that he had almost caused an accident by cutting her off at the light, and informed him that she would be calling the police. The male subject then called her an idiot, but left the area without further incident. The student’s 24-year-old sister was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
- A 20-year-old Emory student reported that someone damaged his black 2006 Acura at Fishburne Parking Deck on Nov. 23 at approximately 1 p.m. The vehicle’s window had been broken, and the damage is valued at $250.
- EPD officers met with the Dobbs University Center (DUC) student manager on Nov. 23 after the student reportedly saw the same male subject sleeping in the DUC on various occassions. The student described the subject as an older, black male subject wearing khakis and a white shirt who had been at the DUC every night for the past week. The same subject has also been seen in the library. EPD officers located the subject in question at Cox Hall, and determined that his son, a professor at Georgia Tech, had been dropping the male subject off at Emory on his way to work and picking him up after work. The male subject appeared to be unattended and disoriented, and officers called his son, the Georgia Tech professor, to pick him up from the location. The male subject was otherwise coherent and did not seem to have any physical disabilities. The 73-year-old male subject and his son are residents of Stone Mountain, Ga.
- Emory Police Department officers responded to a report of suspicious activity on Oct. 17 at 3:22 a.m. EPD officers made contact with four Emory students and a resident adviser (RA) in Harris Hall. A 19-year-old male subject told officers that he was trying to help “a drunk friend to bed.” The intoxicated student was transported to Emory University Hospital for further treatment. Two 18-year-old female students were also at the location when officers arrived. Officers indicated that the students were belligerent and became uncooperative and loud when officers arrived. The students also used obscene gestures when originally contacted by their RA.
- EPD responded to a call from Smith Hall on Oct. 18 at 1:44 a.m. An 18-year-old female student was conscious and alert but had previously been found semi-conscious in her room at the location. She was trasported to Emory University Hospital and the Division of Campus Life was notified.
- EPD responded to Dobbs Hall on Oct. 18 and found an 18-year-old female student unresponsive and in need of medical attention. DeKalb County Fire and Rescue transported her to the Emory University Hospital for further treatment. The Division of Campus Life was notified.
- EPD received a report of property damage on 20 Eagle Row on Oct. 18. EPD officers met with Nored security officers at the location at 3 a.m. A 20-year-old male student stated that a 19-year-old visitor to the University had broken a speaker in his fraternity house. The subject reportedly put his hand on the speaker and it hit the floor, but the complainant stated that he did not know if the act was intentional or not. The speaker is valued at $1,000. Two other 20-year-old Emory students witnessed the damage to the speaker at that time. Friends of the visitor to the University stated that they would pay for the damages to the speaker.
- EPD officers responded to Emory University Hospital on Oct. 18 at 1:08 p.m. at the report of a possible rape. Medical staff at the hospital contacted the police and EPD dispatched a detective to the location. At this time, it is not believed that the rape was a stranger-stranger incident. The victim and caller reported the incident anonymously. The incident occurred on campus but the exact location is unknown at this time.
- Someone stole a bicycle from the bicycle rack outside of Clifton Tower sometime between Oct. 20 at 12 p.m. and Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The bicycle is a Giant Acapulco bicycle valued at $200. The bicycle had been secured with a combination lock.
- Emory Police Department responded to a report of underage drinking at Smith Hall on Nov. 7 at 10:27 p.m. A 19-year-old Asian male student was severely intoxicated at the location and could not be interviewed at that time. EPD officers determined that the student had consumed 15 shots of alcohol at the Kappa Alpha fraternity house. The student refused treatment and an EPD officer escorted him back to his room. A Campus Life professional was notified.
- A 41-year-old female visitor to the Emory University Hospital reported that she parked her 2009 white four-door Mercedes in valet parking at 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 7. The visitor reported that when she returned to her car in valet services at 1 a.m., money was missing from the front center console of the car, including several dollar bills. The steering wheel of the car appeared to be tampered with and had become locked at that time. The female visitor was later able to engage the steering wheel and driver her car.
- EPD officers were in the process of ticketing cars outside of Complex on Nov. 8 between 4:30 and 4:55 a.m. when they observed a female student sleeping in the back seat of one of the vehicles. The 21-year-old Asian student admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier that evening and had entered the car to “sleep it off.” Officers informed the student that she was not allowed to park her car at the location nor was she allowed to sleep in her parked her car. Her roommate arrived at the location to assist the student further and transport her to their off-campus apartment. The student was both sober and cooperative at that time. The Division of Campus Life was notified.
- A theft by taking occurred from 14 Eagle Row on Nov. 9 between 1:02 and 1:37 a.m. A 19-year-old male student reported that four black male subjects were walking around on the main level of the house while the complainant and other residents at the location were in the basement. The residents of the house asked the subjects why they were in the house, to which they replied that they were “here for the party.” At that time the male student noticed that his iPod was missing and the residents of the house attempted to search the individuals. The four subjects accused the residents of searching them “because they were black” but eventually left the house without further interaction with the residents. The four individuals left in a gray Volvo. The Division of Campus Life was notified and the case has been turned over to an investigator.
