Tuesday, September 22

  • Emory Police Department responded to the 1599 Clifton Road building on Sept. 9 at 4:58 a.m. and found a 19-year-old male student sleeping on the sidewalk. The student was disoriented and could not answer the officers’ questions. Emory Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the student to Emory University Hospital for further treatment. The Division of Campus Life was notified.
  • Two Sodexo employees, a female employee and a supervisor, became involved in a dispute at Cox Hall on Sept. 11. EPD arrived at Cox Hall at 2:49 p.m. but the individuals had left the location already. EPD officers referred the incident back to Sodexo managers.
  • EPD received an animial complaint from an anonymous caller on Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. The caller stated that someone left a dog in a vehicle in Peavine Parking Deck. The vehicle had an Arizona lisence plate. The caller further stated that the dog did not have any food or water in the car and that it was very hot. EPD checked the area for the owner of the vehicle. Officers also spoke with someone who stated that they heard the dog barking a couple of hours earlier. EPD officers were able to identify the owner of the vehicle.
  • EPD responded to a call of persons down due to alcohol intoxication at Clairmont Tower on Sept. 13 at 1:35 a.m. Emory Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene as well. A 19-year-old female student stated that she began drinking in a residence hall, left campus and returned to Emory, at which point she began to feel extremely ill. The Residence Hall Director and the Division of Campus Life were notified.
  • EPD responded to a report of persons down due to alcohol intoxication at Harris Hall on Sept. 13 at 3:23 a.m. An 18-year-old male student at the location was disoriented and slow to respond, but was able to stand up and walk around. He was transported to Emory University Hospital. The Residence Hall Director and the Director of Campus Life were notified.
  • EPD responded to an event on the third floor of White Hall on Sept. 13 at 4:25 p.m. An intoxicated male visitor to the University disrupted the event at the location and reportedly said rude things to the group. He was escorted out of the area by officers and complied with their request to leave the location. The subject could not provide the officers with identification, but told them that he came to the event with someone. He left in a cab and did not return to the event.
  • EPD received an animal complaint on Sept. 13 between 6 p.m. and 8:07 p.m. The female student stated that she lives off campus and was in Lullwater Park with her three-year-old dog when it broke free from its leash and ran into the woods. The dog is a boxer and hound mix. The student was not able to locate her dog but told officers that it has tags and a microchip for identification.

Friday, September 11

  • A staff member contacted Emory Police Department on Aug. 29 around 1 p.m. to report that a student had found someone in the Callaway Memorial Center earlier that day. A 40- to 45-year-old female subject with short hair may be sleeping in the building and had been in one of the rooms over the previous weekend. The staff members in Callaway further stated that they thought the female might be homeless.
  • EPD received a report of suspicious activity on Aug. 31 at 4:47 p.m. from a visitor to the University. The visitor stated that they left their cell phone on one of the Cliff shuttles and later called the cell phone when they discovered it was missing. Someone answered their cell phone and the subject stated that he would return the cell phone for $40. The victim agreed to meet the subject in Emory Village to retrieve the cell phone. The victim spoke with EPD at this time and officers met with the subject in Emory Village along with the complainant. Officers identified the male subject as a person who had previously been seen in the area. The subject is a 37-year-old white male, is five feet eight inches tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and may be homeless. The cell phone was returned to the victim without any further incidence.
  • EPD responded to a fire alarm at Evans Hall on Sept. 2 at 2:22 a.m. Roger Montiel of Residence Life staff responded to the location as well. Officers determined the burners on the stove in room 109 had been left on and the smoke had caused the fire alarm to activate. There were no pots on the stove, but there were frozen hamburgers on the counter nearby. Officers opened windows to let teh smoke out of the room.
  • EPD received an animal complaint on Sept. 2 at 12:10 p.m. Staff members at Glenn Memorial Church School Building saw a raccoon in the playground area they thought might be sick after it was reportedly moving slowly across the grounds. EPD called DeKalb County Animal Control to handle the situation, although they did not arrive within the hour. At that time the raccoon had left the playground area.
  • EPD received a report from the second floor of the Winship Cancer Institute on Sept. 3 at 8:50 a.m. A staff member at the location reported that a male subject asked if anyone had turned in an mp3 player. He told another staff member that he was an Emory student, and then went to another reception room on the same floor and got some coffee. The female staff member approached him and asked why he was in the area, to which he responded that he is allowed to come in and get free cups of coffee. EPD officers responded to the location but could not locate the subject. He is a 17- to 18-year-old male subject, is five feet ten inches tall, weighs approximately 120 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing gray shorts and tennis shoes and was carrying a backpack.

Friday, February 29

  • A 27-year-old student called Emory Police Department after receiving harassing phone calls from an individual she had met on a bus and had exchanged numbers with. The first phone call occurred around Jan. 25, and the latest occurred on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The caller called multiple times a day even after the complainant asked him to stop. There were no threats made, but the case has been turned over to an investigator.
  • A theft occurred at the Emory University Hospital sometime between Feb. 16 and Feb. 19. A 62-year-old female patient in the Intensive Care Unit removed her 1.5 carat, square diamond ring set after her finger became swollen. A nurse placed the ring in a biohazard bag and placed the bag in a closet. When the nurse returned a few days later, the bag and the ring were gone. The ring is valued at $9,000 and is not insured.
  • On Feb. 18 a 30-year-old female staff member reported that between 3:47 and 4:24 p.m., persons unknown broke the rear driver’s side window of her 2004 Hyundai parked on the third level of the Michael Street Parking Deck. Nothing was disturbed or missing from inside the vehicle.
  • A 20-year-old female student reported that persons unknown stole her bike sometime between Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. and Feb. 19 at 8:15 a.m. Her bike was parked in front of Turman East, but when she returned the bike was gone. The chain had been cut, and the lock was on the ground.
  • EPD responded to a call at Trimble Hall on Feb. 19 at 12:31 a.m. A 20-year-0ld male student had trapped a rat in his closet. The rat had bit his finger when he tried to remove it from the room. Campus Life was notified, and an exterminator was contacted.
  • On Feb. 20 at 6:50 a.m., EPD responded to a call reporting that a 20-year-old female student at McTyiere Hall was intoxicated. The subject’s roomate tried to wake her and contacted EPD and Emory First Responder Unit when she could not wake the individual. The subject stated that she had been drinking at a friend’s apartment. EPD confiscated a fake driver’s license, which the student said a friend at Georgia Tech made for her.
